The editorial and sales staff that
make it happen at The Review

Louise Sproule

Louise Sproule
Publisher and Editor

Review publisher Louise Sproule has owned The Review since 1992. Louise writes the editorial each week, covers Champlain Township council meetings and water and environmental issues, in addition to regular news. Louise is a two-time winner of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association “Best Local Editorial” award in the 10,000-and-under circulation category.

She is a member of the Higginson Tower Restoration Committee; a project which is being funded by the Champlain Time Capsule. She is also an involved member of the Vankleek Hill Business and Merchant Association, organizing Trash and Treasure (the town-wide yard sale in Vankleek Hill which occurs each year on the first Saturday of June) and the Victorian Home and Garden Tour, which takes place the third Saturday in June.

She loves local history and her roots in Vankleek Hill go back to Simeon VanKleek, the town’s first settler.

Matthew Talbot
News Editor

Matthew is now The Review's news editor.

He was part of a team that live-blogged the 2008 Election Night and was a live, on-air TV correspondent for TV Cogeco 11.

Born in England, Matthew moved to Canada at the tender age of four and, after exhausting travels all over the Maritimes and Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, he finally settled in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

Matthew graduated from Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute in 2002 and moved to Ottawa to study Journalism at Algonquin College. He graduated from the college in 2004.

For the first year after school, he worked in retail while still writing on the side - though he was relieved when the Review offered him a full-time position.

He loves gadgets and technology, words and travelling.

In 2006, Matthew made a name for himself in the community by covering the gas explosion of a house in Vankleek Hill.

He had no idea community journalism could be so interesting. .

His time with CBC Radio included touring with the Royal Canadian Air Farce as their on-stage sound effects man and recording two albums with Glenn Gould. Jean retired as senior advisor to the vice-president of technology at CBC and over the years, was involved in nation-wide programming and technology changes.

Jean records concerts and events such as all-candidates meetings with a view to putting more multi-media content on The Review's website.  Watch for continuing changes to The Review's website as we try new things to get you more involved in what is published in the newspaper and online!

George Ball has been selling advertising space in The Review for almost two decades and for the past 13 years, has been advertising manager. We were lucky to snag this former golf pro when he decided it was time to stop travelling the world and stay in one place.

His busy workdays are spent on the road, but close to home in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec where he visits his clients each week. In the summer, you’ll see his golf clubs in the back of his car so that he is able to fit a game in at the end of the day.
